ABOUT SOUL TRADERS (formerly known as The Business)

Canberra's most in-demand, versatile and skilled performers, possessing the unique ability to make a hit or classic cover song their own, tweaking it with a little bit of soul.

Founding members Rachael Thoms and Aron Lyon met through studying Bachelor of Music Jazz Performance degrees at the ANU School of Music where they have since become sought-after teachers, examiners, and consultants. The pair has played in numerous projects over the years, including PLUMP (with Anthony Dellamarta - vocals, Luke Sweeting - keys, Damien Slingsby - Keys, Ben Foster - keys, Jason Varlet - bass, Kay Chinnery - drums), The Chameleons (with bassist Bill Williams and drummer Ed Rodrigues) and most recently as The Business, both in duo and full band mode, with a line-up including some of the capital's most sought-after musicians (Jason Varlet - bass, Leigh Miller - bass, Kay Chinnery - drums, Damien Slingsby - keys). 

After almost 10 years of making music together, and a lifetime of study, practice, teaching and performing experience under their belts, these guys are polished and pro with an infectious energy and chemistry. The influences of soul, neo-soul, R&B and blues are undeniably identifiable. They each possess stunning technical skills and the ability to reimagine a song on the spot. They can get you on your feet or make you swoon.

The band also expands to a kick-ass five-piece (keys and male vocalist) band for corporate events and weddings and a three-piece horn section can also be incorporated for those extra special events.
